In this GACSO  on-line event  -  Jae Mather explores some global best practice tools that are available to help deliver sustainable procurement and some practical case studies that demonstrate some amazing successes. In addition the principles and framework of BS 8903 – the world’s first sustainable procurement guidance standard. Matthew Chalkley, from IBM will provide a business example.  We will be inviting further contributions on the day from GACSO members active on sustainable procurement.

Procurement is often the core of the problem when it comes to sustainability as many people speak of achieving best value when in reality the skills and the tools are not being used to deliver anything other than best price. As there is a huge difference between COST, PRICE and VALUE, organisations often find themselves choosing the cheapest solution only to find that it ends up costing much more than many of the more expensive options originally offered in the procurement exercise. Sustainable procurement offers a huge range of tools and techniques that can be brought to bear on the procurement process so that the correct questions are being asked, the right things are being required and that the outcome is much more completely understood so that success becomes the norm instead of a rarity.

This event is open to GACSO members only.  GACSO are developing a series of web based events that will explore leading sustainability challenges. These sessions will be smaller more interactive webinars and we will seek to run these to a Chatham house approach – (safe environment for shared learning). They will be delivered with leading practitioners and will include facilitated ‘open discussion’ sessions.
