Coca Cola and GACSO invite you to join them and other sustainability professionals to explore:

  • What skills and competencies will the Chief Sustainability Officer of tomorrow need?

Ever increasing number of organisations are embracing Corporate Responsibility and CSR and adapting their operations by better managing resources, supply chains and community outreach programmes.  But only a few are really placing sustainability at the heart of their business – rather than making a series of optional operational changes.


These organisations appoint someone who can lead this transformation.   Some are choosing business managers and giving them a new role, while others are looking for sustainability specialists who can inject new thinking, perspectives and world-views.  There are as many different solutions as there are organisations and the “profession” is still in its infancy.


This leaves some tough questions:

  • Where will these people come from?
  • What skills and competencies will they need to succeed?
  • Where will they best fit in the organisation to have most impact?
  • What’s the career path going to look like?
  • How do they gain the credibility and influence to create the changes required?


GACSO has drawn upon the combined experience of its founder members to produce “Defining and developing the corporate sustainability professional – the practitioners’ view.” This sets out the “Gold Standard”, a super-set of the abilities competencies and attributes the Chief Sustainability Officer of the future will need. It provides a basis for mapping out a multitude of personal development and career paths for sustainability professionals from education right into to the Board Room.


Together we will use this document as the basis for deeper enquiry, learning from each other the implications this can have for our own careers and how it can inform the other players in your career – HR, Talent Development, Recruitment Consultants.
