GACSO Salon:  Corporate Energy

Corporate Sustainability Leaders have always had a simple “in” to the board room “our energy bill is only going in one direction, skyward, invest in energy conservation and we will save serious money and win sustainable business brownie points, it’s the simplest of win wins”.

This may no longer be true!

It looks like UK energy policy is shaped by 3 priorities:

  1. Energy security, keeping the lights on

  2. Keeping energy affordable (4% of UK spend more than 10% of their income on energy)

  3. Making it greener

Global corporates now have another option: Cheap, secure energy in territories close to mature markets.

Renewables remain, in many peoples’ opinion unproven, unpopular and wind / solar have the limitation that they only generate power when the weather allows. The hurdles to renewables may be overcome but does new technology like fracking provide society with new choices? Despite cost effectiveness suppliers of efficiency, especially domestic efficiency in the UK, are not enjoying the success we would expect

This salon is for GACSO members - what does this all mean for us, the full time practitioners? Are our jobs getting easier or harder? What should we say and advise the businesses we have influence over.

The salon will be led by GACSO directors Mat Roberts and Colin Braidwood.
